FA Youth Cup winning captain arrives at SN1

It seems like STFC have injected some quality into their steadily growing squad, With Kaine Kesler Hayden joining on a season long loan signing from Aston Villa.

Kaine, the versatile right sided player, joined up with the squad for training after signing on Monday.

The 18-year-old boasts helping the West Midlands side winning the FA Youth Cup trophy, impressively under his captaincy.

He also caught the eye of plaudits with his first team debut against Liverpool in Villa’s FA Cup Third Round, producing a display where he was arguably their player on the pitch for those 90 minutes.

Accomplishments like these meant there were no raised eyebrows when a five-year deal was dished out to the young prospect, not something you see every day with a player so young.

With this being his first loan away from his parent club, it’s safe to say that the Villa youngster is getting thrown into the deep end, the physically testing division which is League Two.

Making the leap from academy football to first team is certainly a test for any young footballer, however there is no mystery why the club have chosen Ben Garner to guide Kaine into the next step of his career.

The Head Coach of Swindon’s relationship with Villa’s Loan Development Coach, Mile Jedinak, was one of the key reasons why the move occurred in the first place.

They developed their relationship together while at Crystal Palace, where Garner was a coach and Jedinak was still playing.

It does seem that the current Head Coach, who was mentored by former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, spent his time wisely while coaching at several top flight clubs gaining a good variety of contacts in the game.

And there is no wonder why clubs with elite academies like Villa want their players to develop under Garner’s tutoring. Having been an integral cog in developing young players such as Wilfred Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, it’s safe to say Garner’s pedigree speaks for itself.

This signing does seem to follow the promising structure and model which both the STFC Head Coach and Director of Football Ben Chorley allude to. And with another young starlet in George McEachran from Chelsea currently on trial among other acquisitions, a pattern does seem to be occurring.

Villa fans certainly came out in their numbers to sing Kaine’s praises when the signing was announced, some of the fan reaction is below.
