A Saturday lunch time KO game being shown on Sky Sports with 5 Internationals missing from the match day squad, sign me up.
Swindon travel the short distance to Nailsworth in Gloucestershire to take on the leaders of League Two Forest Green Rovers which is live on the TV.
What a wonderful away day last Saturday was, grim weather in an open terrace watching your team win a local derby 3-1 with two late goals. It was worth getting absolutely drenched, totally worth it for the reward after the final whistle.
It was one of the most dominant performances I have seen from Swindon Town in a long while, never looked flustered. Stuck to a game plan and the players and fans that travelled were reaping the rewards at the end. Credit to Ben Garner he got his substitution, and his tactics spot on against a very lacklustre and toothless Bristol Rovers side who didn’t offer much in the game. Garner got one over Joey Barton who was trying to add some spice to the game pre-match.
The big losses going into this game against the league leaders will be the 5internationals that will be missing from the STFC Matchday squad come kick off tomorrow. That is the spine of the team that is missing, it’s a shame that the game couldn’t be called off as its on the tele. Just hope our fans don’t use it as a lazy excuse come full time if the result isn’t in our favour.
Predicted line up vs FGR
Ward, Odimayo, Conroy, Critchlow, Hunt, Reed, Gladwin, Payne, Iandolo, McKirdy, Simpson.
Forest Green Rovers are the league leaders in League Two after 10 games of the season, 23 points from a possible 30. 7 wins 2 draws and 1 defeat so far this season. Forest Green Rovers are 7 points clear of Swindon Town in the league two table with the Robins occupying 5th place. Also, they are 4 points clear of second place Harrogate Town in the league two standings.
The league leaders are unbeaten in their last 5 league two games with 3 wins and 2 draws. The two draws were both 0-0 draws away at Exeter and at home to Tranmere Rovers. The 3 wins were a 1-0 home win over Northampton, a 4-0 away win over Stevenage and last weekend a 2-0 away win at Carlisle. A long trip from Cumbria back to Gloucestershire with three points in the bag.
Rob Edwards in the new Forest Green Rovers manager this season and is really enjoying life at the club. After leaving Wolves U16 In May 2021, Forest Green Rovers offered a chance of management in league football and he is grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Just a small sample size of games in charge with 13 in total in all competitions, Edwards is averaging a whopping 2 points per game.
Rob Edwards does have an identity and he has stuck to his tactics this season of playing with a back 3 in a 3-5-2 or playing with a 10 behind the striker in a 3-4-1-2.
