TrustSTFC is absolutely delighted at the appointment of Rob Angus as Swindon Town’s Chief Executive. Rob is a dedicated supporter who has worked tirelessly for the Trust since joining the board in March 2017, after helping out from 2016.
Rob was heavily involved in setting up the Joint Venture established by the club and Trust to purchase the County Ground, and we look forward to taking that forward in due course.
He has also been central to the Trust’s intense efforts since February to save our football club, giving hours of time every day over that period. He was part of the team that gave a presentation on Swindon’s plight to the Fan Led Review.
In our recent board conversation with Clem Morfuni we strongly recommended that the club be focused around the local community and, learning from past experiences, be led by a Chief Executive who has an appreciation for the supporters and is willing to engage. Rob Angus fits the bill perfectly.
He has been a senior executive at Nationwide for many years, leading teams on finance and strategy issues. Stand out projects including establishing and building a Fin Tech digital business bank and leading the turnaround of an underperforming and loss making business line to contributing profit of £50 million, in both cases within just 18 months.
That experience of building afresh will be critical given the circumstances of the club. Rob also served as the senior sponsor of Nationwide’s disability network and is passionate about providing environments in which all can thrive.
Just as importantly, Rob has grown up supporting the club, and is someone of great character who we know we can trust. He is absolutely committed to good governance, fan engagement and the vision we share with Mr Morfuni for the club.
The news this week that Rob had formally been offered, and had accepted the Chief Executive role has made us even more excited about the future, and we look forward to working in partnership with him as a critical best friend of the club.
Rob resigned yesterday as vice-chair of TrustSTFC. Again, we thank him for the massive contribution he has already made to the future of Swindon Town Football Club and wish him well.
