Swindon Town are on the road again in the 4th EFL game of the season, this time they will be travelling north to take on Salford City looking for maximum points and a second league win of the season.
I was very impressed on what I witnessed on Tuesday evening; I watched the game on I follow. Was really impressed on what I saw from both teams. Swindon Town and Tranmere Rovers played out a very entertaining 0-0 draw. It says something that the MOTM in the eyes of the fans for Tranmere was the goalkeeper, Joe Murphy. The veteran Goalkeeper kept Tranmere in the game with some excellent point-blank saves in the second half.
Both teams on Tuesday night played good football and was just missing that bit of quality in the final third. With Swindon it’s just a game-by-game thing, remember as I have stated before and others have stated. The squad was put together in just over a month and will be firing and clicking soon. Trust the process.
Good news is that Kaine Kesler-Hayden is back from suspension after his sending off at home to Carlisle. Both Mathieu Baudry and Jordan Lyden are still out injured but not far away from being available for selection.
On Thursday it was announced that Swindon Town had signed Jordan Mitchell-Lawson on a free transfer from Derby County. An attacking midfielder who can play either side in attack, a player who can add more dynamism to our attack.
Predicted Line up vs Salford 4-2-3-1
Wollacott, Kesler-Hayden, Conroy, Critchlow, Hunt, Reed, Grant, Mckirdy, Williams, Payne, Simpson
Salford City have had a slow start to the league two campaign under Gary Bowyer, two draws and a defeat after the first three games of the season has seen Salford City in 16th place. Salford City started the season with a 1-1 home draw against Leyton Orient. New signing Matty Willock with the equaliser which cancelled out Omar Beckles goal for the away side. Salford City were knocked out of the EFL Cup in a thriller at pride park. 3-3 then defeated 8-6 on penalties, Salford City were 2-0 up and 3-2 up and chucked away the lead. The two league games that followed have been a 0-0 home draw against Sutton United and on Tuesday night a 2-1 away defeat at Crawley Town.
Gary Bowyer has only been in charge at Salford for a short time, 5 months exactly. He was appointed in March 2021 when ex Swindon Town manager Richie Wellens was relieved of his duties. Bowyer has been in charge for 14 matches all together with mixed results. 5 Wins 4 draws and 5 defeats. Bowyer likes to play with a 4-4-2 formation but has switched the tactical set up to 4-1-4-1, 4-3-3 and a 4-2-3-1.
Key player to watch out for in the Salford City side will be winger Josh Morris. Signed on a free transfer in the summer from league one side Fleetwood Town. Hasn’t scored in the league this season for Gary Bowyer side but scored a double in the thrilling 3-3 draw at Pride Park against Derby County. A Left footed player who can play on either wing or in the middle, he showed his quality with the first goal he scored against Derby County. Cutting in from the right-hand side and curling in a lovely low effort into the corner of the net.
Swindon Town have fond memories of their previous trip to the peninsula stadium, November 2019 and a 3-2 away win. Us fans are hoping for a same performance again and a positive result come 5pm. The performance on Tuesday was encouraging and impressive and on any other day it could have been three points. It has been a good solid start to the season so far and let’s hope it continues.
