One little stat that went past largely unnoticed over the weekend was the fact that the Bristol Rovers game was Swindon’s 4,000th league match since joining in 1920.
As always with these things, it’s sometimes a little ambiguous as to what should and shouldn’t be included in the figures – so, just for clarity, the 4,000 games are regular season matches only (no play-offs); it doesn’t include the “unofficial” season of 1945-46, but does include the three games in 1939-40 before the season was abandoned due to the war.
And finally… it does also include the only season that the Town spent outside the Football League… the Premier season of 1993-94.
And so, here are a few mildly interesting but ultimately useless facts and figures from the Town’s first 4000 league matches… here’s to the next 4,000!
