Swindon Town vs Hartlepool: Match Preview

Swindon Town are back in action on Tuesday night under the lights at the County Ground as they take on Hartlepool United. Swindon Town will be looking to turn around the wretched home form that has hindered them this season.

Swindon Town have currently got the worst home record in league two this season, on the flip side is that they have the best away record in the division. At home this season in seven games, Swindon Town have picked up just six points with one win three draws and three defeats. But away from home it is a different story, with twenty-three points from nine games with seven wins and two draws.

I do think our style of football is more suited to playing away from home, teams come onto Swindon Town and with the ball playing midfielders that we have in the team. They find it easier to play through the thirds and create more chances. At home, I feel that against teams who like to sit in and counter, Swindon find it harder to pass through teams and you can see that with the results.

Saturday victory away in Newport was outstanding, for large parts of the game Swindon Town was not at their best and had to rely on excellent goalkeeping from Jojo Wollacott to bail them out. It was very cagey performance for seventy plus minutes and then the game sprung into action with two quick goals. Poor defending for the Newport equaliser where the Swindon Town defence shut off for a quick second and Dom Telford does what he does best and score goals in League Two. But Jack Payne took aim from long distance and que bedlam in the away end. Brilliant away win and a brilliant day out in Newport, lost the voice in the away end. But it was worth it in the end.

I do agree what with Ben Garner said in the pre-match press conference saying that he would rotate, it is a packed schedule going into the Christmas and New year run in. Nine games in three competitions in just over five weeks.

Predicted XI vs Hartlepool

Wollacott, Hunt, Conroy, Odimayo, Kesler-Hayden, Reed, Williams, Payne, Iandolo, McKirdy, Simpson.

After defeating Torquay United on penalties to gain promotion back to the football league, Hartlepool United have had a strong solid start to the 2020/21 season. Hartlepool United find themselves in 12th place with twenty-three points from seventeen games. Just three points behind Harrogate Town who occupy the last play off spot.

The last five games in League Two for Hartlepool United have been inconsistent. It started off with back-to-back wins including a 3-1 away win at Bradford City and a 3-2 home win over Harrogate town. That has been followed with three defeats in a row, a 5-0 defeat just before Halloween away at Leyton Orient. That was followed by back-to-back home defeats to Newport County and to league leaders Forest Green Rovers. In the FA Cup Hartlepool United managed to defeat Wycombe 1-0 in a first round replay at Adams Park. Mark Cullen with the only goal of the game, Hartlepool will travel to Lincoln City for the second round

Anthony Sweeney is currently in caretaker charge at Hartlepool United, he took over at the beginning of November after Dave Challinor left his position at the club to take over the reigns at Stockport County. Challinor 5 weeks before hand side a new three-year deal at Hartlepool United but informed the club his desire to leave after Stockport County made an approach for his services.
