Swindon Town return to home comforts on Saturday afternoon at the Energy Check County Ground as they will be looking for their first home win of the season over Nigel Clough Mansfield Town side.
No midweek game has been a blessing in disguise for the players and the staff. You have to rewind the clock just over a month ago where pre-season was shorter than expected due to the takeover and the lack of players at the club. Extra time on the training pitch will be working wonders for the players and coaches. Just to think, it is the same for next week. No midweek game next week and more time on the training ground.
Last weekend result at Salford was a brilliant result for the fans and the players. All the hard work going on behind the scenes after a turbulent summer is paying off. The players and the fans are reaping the rewards. No way in hell after just 4 games of the season did I see Swindon Town in the top 4, it has been a fantastic start and long may it continue.
Predicted line up vs Mansfield
Wollacott, Odimayo, Conroy, Critchlow, Kesler-Hayden, Reed, Grant, Hunt, Payne, Williams, Simpson.
Mansfield Town are the visitors on Saturday afternoon in Swindon Town third home game of the season. After the last two campaigns where the Stags finished 21st and 16th in the league two standings which were below expectations, Mansfield have started the season strong and are sitting in 5th place and sitting behind the opponents only on goal difference.
Mansfield Town starting the league two season with a thrilling 2-1 home win over Bristol Rovers. A 96th minute penalty from new signing Daniel Johnson gave the stags the three points. A week later a 2-1 home win over Newport County followed. After the two home wins to start the season, Nigel Clough side have only picked up one point from a possible six. A 1-1 away draw away at Colchester United was followed by a 3-2 home defeat by Bradford City. Oliver Hawkins scored a brace for the home side, but Bradford City scored twice in the last 30 minutes to take away the three points. In the first round of the EFL Cup, Mansfield Town were knocked out of the cup by Preston North End 3-0.
Nigel Clough has been the Mansfield manager since November 2020 replacing the sacked Graham Coughlan who departed the club on October 28th, 2020. Clough record at Mansfield is good and steady at this level, 18 wins from 43 games in all competitions with 13 draws and 12 defeats. Clough did win his first 3 games in charge at Mansfield. This season he has lined up in a diamond formation with Oliver Hawkins and Daniel Johnson in attack, Hawkins has started the season the stronger with 3 goals from 4 games in the league.
Really looking forward to this game tomorrow afternoon, two teams who like to play attractive football. Swindon Town looking to make it back-to-back wins and end the month on a high, Mansfield looking to stop poor results and not make 3 without a win. Should be a fun encounter over the Bank Holiday weekend with a big crowd in attendance.
